The Ninth Gate (1999)

I was watching the Ninth Gate (Roman Polanski) staring Johnny Depp. I don't know if it would be counted as a horror movie or a thriller with horror aspects. It hits a lot of the horror tropes, but there's not time where the film scared me or tried to make me jump out of my skin.

I own this one and have watched it numerous times. I love the plot and I am a huge Depp fan!! To me, it doesn't matter what people label it cause I love it regardless.

I love this movie!
Too bad there aren't more like this.

Oh yeah, nice post! I'm a fan for sure. The supernatural is always a theme that will make me take a look and when Polanski directs it's usually pretty damn stellar. The Ninth Gate is no exception.
Is it horror? No idea but it has enough elements of horror to sit next to any of the fright flicks on my shelf and fit right in.

I also find it very Lovecraftian.

Big fan of this movie. I own the DVD.

So what you're saying is that it doesn't matter, because it's good and close enough?

This thread made me wanna watch it again. So I did.
Still a masterpiece.

The original question was "does it count as a horror movie or is it just a thriller with supernatural aspects?"

Oh, yeah.
The answer is, it doesn't matter. At least not imo.
