What is your favorite George A. Romero zombie movie?

My personal favorite is Dawn of the Dead.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD...my #1 film by anyone. For the money and resources they did not have, they did an excellent job. Have met several of the surviving cast/crew at cons and all of them pretty nice, especially Russ, Judith and George Kosana.

Dawn of the Dead (closely followed by Day of the Dead)

It's a tie between Dawn and Day for me now. It used to be Dawn all the way but as I got older I really began to appreciate Day a lot more.

Night or dawn. Probably dawn, just because there are so many cool effects and the fact of them taking shelter in a mall. Too cool.

Dawn of the Dead. Great movie.

Same here...very disappointed when I first saw DAY, but repeat viewings and learning more of the history make me love it. Still will take the first two over it, but a favorite.
If you get a chance to meet Joe Pilato, jump on it! Really nice guy, even if he's in "character" most of the time.

No contest for me. Night of the Living Dead is an epic experience. It immerses one into it's woken nightmare. The sound is expertly subtle and penetrating. The actors nail their performances. I believe every single character is there and experiencing this catastrophe.

I can't say the same for the other two films, especially Dawn. In Dawn, the main characters are much too glib (slick, smart-talking), cool and collected, having a good time. And they're much too alike. If they are every to become comfortable in that hell, it comes way too soon. I never quite believe them, nor care about them.

I get the zombie shoppers are symbolic of the modern consumer zombies that we've become. How many minutes does it take to get that across? Besides that, it's a bit like the funny shoot-em-up PC game "Redneck Rampage". If you're looking for that in a film, you got it. If you're looking for great gore effects, you get some of that too. I'm more for an overall story experience.

Day of the Dead is better than Dawn. The character acting is more believable for their actual situation. The characters differentiate themselves both with roles and personality, and are a bit more endearing, though I don't care for them all that much either. The story is much more interesting from a sci-fi standpoint, with more depth and thought-provoking subplots.
