Play the "Bloody Mary vs. Candyman" Game!

Okay. Lots of talk about a Bloody Mary movie. My question is,
what unique elements exist that justify a Bloody Mary movie
when Candyman's already been done?

Sure, the underlying mythology is different (and okay, Candyman
isn't based on an actual urban legend) but absent something
REALLY unique, they're the same horror flick.

CANDYMAN

Unsuspecting teen recites CANDYMAN "x" number of times
in front of mirror. Candyman comes out, kills unsuspecting teen.

BLOODY MARY

Unsuspecting teen recites BLOODY MARY "x" number of times
in front of mirror. BLOODY MARY comes out, kills unsuspecting teen.

I think you see the problem here. So my challenge to you:

What should Hollywood do with the Bloody Mary tale to give
us all good reason to plunk down nine bucks and sit through
something that promises to be more than a CANDYMAN retread?

I'll hang up and listen for my answer.

Because I have actually heard of, and used to be terrified of, Bloody Mary. Also Candyman was a great movie, but I could use an update with a different director.

I agree... the fact that she is a part of
my hellish childhood certainly helps...

but still... something else is needed in
the story to make it unique... don't you
think?

Yeah I guess. I just picture the Bloody Mary movie turning into 13 Ghosts, which would suck.

Maybe the kids that 'conjured' Mary would be related to her or something like that. I dont know, just some kind of twist.

I think if the right people were involved, and a good screenwriter was used, it could be good.

I have a certain childhood horror for bloody mary, but i still love Candyman, that movie owns...

Could Bloody Mary enslave the unsuspecting teen and make them kill people around them to bath in their blood?

interesting idea Orangestar... could possibly work,
having a descendant of hers be the key to
unlocking her reign of terror.

Also interesting concept Dark... having her possess
children to do her bidding. Though I'd like to see
Mary herself perpetrate the evil. She could be one
scary broad.

But I still think there's something missing... that singular
element that will make her story utterly terrifying and
unique.

Keep 'em comin.

I've never really been scared of the bloodymary thing even as a kid, but must say that I quite enjoyed the first two Candyman movies. I've never seen the third though.

How about this? There is a legend that if you call out Bloody Mary 7 times she will appear and answer any question you ask. But you can only do it once, because the second time she will mutilate you. However the first part is a lie. At the 3rd time a beautiful but blurry face appears. At the 5th time it begins to clear up. At the 7th you are standing face to face with her. Her face is a Bloody mess and she tells you that vengence is hers. Then she disappears. Next people you care about start having deadly, gruesome accidents. The only way to stop it is to do the ritual again, so she will tear you to pieces.
