Just calling him a hillbilly would get you shot, too. This happened in "Bloody" Breathitt county and people going postal and shooting each other is not unusual there. In fact, they don't even need to "go postal" -- it's an expected behavior. My people all came from that region of Kentucky and I can assure you it's a very unique environment.

Some of the people living up in the hills are of course mentally limited (this guy obviously had a belt missing a few loops) but in fact these people are mostly direct descendants from early English and Scottish settlers who pioneered that region. Their family heritages are pretty much intact and those folks have lived in a fairly primitive social way for centuries. They isolated themselves and lived up in the far eastern Kentucky mountains unchanged in culture from much of their original English and Scots ancestors.

People up there use Middle English words everyday. It's not like Deliverance. These folks are quite intelligent, cunning, and not someone you would wisely cross.

This wouldn't happen to be the same area that this crime took place?http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/arc..._09/020091.php

Not the same area. The Daniel Boone forest is a huge reserved wilderness area toward the southern border of Kentucky. What I'm guessing is that the census worker stumbled across a meth lab.

But no, that's a different region from the eggs story.

from the sounds of it the person who called needs to lose a little weight himself a couple ounces of less of sausage isn't going to hurt him much, sure he say's he's feeding 5-6 people but this country is big as it is. I was just talking with a friend earlier about portion sizes and yes we ate at a buffet but afterwards we both agreed we probably didn't need to eat as much as we did ( not something I do everyday lol ).
