DC Hardcore (80s)

Been rocking a lot of it this week shit's so fucking killer. I dig how hardcore from this part of the states was a little different/more adventurous musically than the rest of the states.

Been especially into Rites Of Spring, Faith, Gray Matter, Embrace and one my favorite 80s HC bands Void.

So you guys fans or what?

Here's a site some of you might find interesting: Banned in DC

Bad Brains, Void, Scream, Minor Threat, a lot of good stuff from that area. I still prefer the boston stuff mostly though, guess I'm biased.

I've always dug Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, and Bad Brains. Not too well-versed in that scene myself, though.

I was huge in the HC scene when I was a teenager back in the 80's and early 90's. It was good times playing drums in a band when I was that young. I was 13 and I played with dudes that when in their 20's. I still love and listen to HC bands from all over the states like.. Underdog, Gorilla Biscuits, Cro-Mags, Government Issue, Operation Ivy, Minor Threat, Quicksand, 7 Seconds, R.K.L., M.D.C., Bad Brains, and Sick Of It All. To name a few.

Ahhh I totally forgot about Scream! Boston had some really dope bands too for sure. I'm wearing my Jerry's Kids shirt at the moment haha. I'm big on the F.U's too.

The Boston scene looks pretty violent from a few things I've seen like that Boston Beatdown documentary.

We did.. All on a 4-track. None of us have the tapes.
We also recorded a few shows on VHS and they were thrown away by my ex-girlfriend many years ago. All I have is the memories.

I wonder if the tapes will come out of the woodwork somewhere? There seems to be a lot of 80s HC stuff popping up from the past now that there's a bit of a revival of bands playing the older style.

What were you guys called?

yeah thats the new post hardcore "FSU" bullshit. thats big in Western Massachusetts mostly. most of the good boston bands were from the 80's, however boston still has a great scene of bands that play old school HC and dont try to prove how tough they are by starting fights.

as for the old stuff, check out Gang Green, SS Decontrol, Last Rights, Deep Wound and Seige if you haven't yet.

Elvis_Christ 04-30-2010 05:28 PM

Figured it would be one group ruining it for everyone. Violence at shows it dumb as fuck I don't really strike it too much down here. I had to pry two apes off each other a few weeks back at one of our shows but that was the first incident in quite some time.

Siege are one of my favorite bands. So fucking killer.

Been rocking a lot of Deep Wound lately love those guys too.
