One of the greatest horror producers of all time, producing such films as Cat People, Curse of the Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie, Body Snatcher, The Haunting, Curse/Night of the Demon, etc.

Currently reading a biography of him called Fearing The Dark and has been a great read. Really great, highly recommended for those who are fans of him and of his movies. Lewton had a wonderful style and believed the scariest horror and terror were those that were in the mind and wasn't seen, unlike the Universal Pictures which glorified in showing their monsters, etc.

Are there any fans of this guy's movies? What do you think in general?

Yes indeed, one of horror's greats. A truly masterful director.

Yep, gotta love this guy...produced some of the greatest films in the genre. The Body Snatcher is probably my personal favourite, but it's a tough decision.

Wasn't aware he had a hand in The Haunting - especially considering he had been dead for over 10 years by the time it was made.

Yah, Greg was a bit over-enthusiastic in putting The Haunting in there...

The tone is Lewtonish and probably made the association because of Robert Wise directing some Lewton films. If you're a Lewton fan, Greg you should check out the documentary in the Val Lewton collection. Well worth it, contains some footage of Neil Gaiman and Harlan Ellison talking about Lewton, too.

May be I have seen very few of his movies but I think Lewton was one of the few greatest visionary men of Horror who successfully lightened the genre into whole another level of excellence.

And Robert Wise was one of the extraordinary genius directors in celluloid history who left remarkable examples of inspiring work in almost every genre of films. After watching "The Haunting" for the very first time early this year, I'm still now bit confused to decide my No. 1 all time favorite horror films...Psycho or The Haunting(!?!?).

One of the first masters of horror. Body horror and creature films owe everything to this man.
