Another classic shot to shit:

Rob Zombie is Remaking The Blob

Rob Zombie, whose Halloween II opens today, will write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic The Blob, which starred Steve McQueen.

In the original, an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially.

"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie told the trade. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."

Zombie will produce with Genre Co.'s Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten; original "Blob" producer Jack H. Harris; and Judith Parker Harris of Worldwide Entertainment Corp. and Andy Gould.

They are developing the project as an R-rated film that will cost around $30 million to make.

Then why in God's name is he remaking THE FUCKING BLOB?

I was kind of intrigued by the idea of Zombie taking on this kind of material until I read that quote. What the hell is he thinking?

No kidding.
"Big red blobbly thing"? What a moron. Good heavens.

He claims to be such a horror fan, but after he thought he improved Halloween by completely demystifying it, and now this, I feel he has no idea what he's doing. I thought HO1000C was pretty fun, and I really enjoyed Devil's Rejects, but he needs to leave established horror the hell alone.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that this falls through.

I think he was on crack when he gave out this interview.

He must be on something, as The Blob can't get any scarier since the 1980's remake came out. That one really scared the hell outta me and put me off food for days.

I think The Penguin and J sum up my feelings on the matter...

I. LOVED House of 1000 Corpses. Why he doesn't go back to his own original concepts is beyond me. And why the HELL remake The Blob???

Yeah that puzzles me too...

Before he did any of the remakes - i thought he might do an interesting version of Mothers Day. The Blob is a weird fucking choice - its a great film - i need to watch the remake again soon too.

i have no problem with zombie remaking this film.

far more interested to see what he could do with this than i was with halloween.

I think monster movies from the 50's are ideal remake material..

it sure didnt hurt The Thing.

I think I'm with you and everyone else at the same time. I have no problem with a remake because unless he tapes over the original copy, he's not exactly destroying the old one, or the first remake. Let him waste money and time on yet another film that will no doubt get panned.

Although I do think he's an idiot for remaking The Blob without The Blob.

He talks about his original ideas all the time but I think the studios are afraid to finance his projects. I think remakes are not only his way of being able to give his take on some of his favorites but also a way to gather funding to do some of his own stuff. Could be wrong. Still waiting for Superbeasto...
