Bruce Willis as "Red"

Bruce Willis is mulling a number of action movies as potential starring vehicles, with the film adaptation of the Warren Ellis graphic novel Red being among them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog, the 54 year-old Die Hard star "has been in discussions to shoot and fight his way through three action pics — a thriller for NuImage/Millenium titled Inventory, the CIA tale Red for Summit and the mob biopic Scarpa for Morgan Creek."

THR says Red, based on the WildStorm/DC comic, would see Willis "portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin comes a-callin' to threaten him and his girlfriend."

The trade cautions, however, that negotiations could break down between Willis and Summit. The studio is also looking for a director, with Willis' 16 Blocks helmer Richard Donner named a contender.

Red was scripted by Erich and Jon Hoeber. It will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, with DC Comics' Gregory Noveck exec producing.

Morgan Freeman is in talks to star alongside Bruce Willis in Summit Entertainment's espionage thriller "Red," based on the WildStorm/DC Comic.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing with DC exec Gregory Noveck serving as exec producer.

Brothers Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are penning the script.

Summit acquired rights to "Red," originally written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner, last year.

The three-book series, published in 2003 and 2004, tells the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him.

Freeman's toplining Nelson Mandela biopic "Invictus," directed by Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros. with a December release date.
