Metropolis...original uncut version?

I got this from Wikipedia and wanted to know if anyone out there has any more information on this.

"Note: There are multiple versions of Metropolis. The original, longest version remained unseen except for its initial premiere and release in Germany in 1927. Of this version, a quarter of the footage was believed to be permanently lost, but the German paper Die Zeit reported on 2 July 2008 that a film museum in Argentina had turned up what scholars believe to be a print of Metropolis containing the missing footage. The American version, shortened and re-written by Channing Pollock, is the most commonly known and discussed."

The version I have from Kino Video is 2 hours 4 minutes long. If a quarter of the footage was missing, this means that there is around 30 minutes of footage never seen outside of its' initial release in Germany back in 1927.

If any of this is true it would be very exciting.

Phantom of the Opera/Metropolis questions...

I downloaded a copy of "Phantom" and watched it for the very first time.

I enjoyed it so much I am planning on adding it to my personal collection.

I was wondering if there is a particular version I should look out for, as despite this being an old movie the copy I watched was very clear-I am assuming it had some work done to it.

1) So is there a definitive remastered version and if so, which company released it?

2) Also, anyone know about the missing footage of "Metropolis" that was found in Buenos Aires, Argentina? Are there any plans to release it and/or add it to the version that we all know and love from Kino Video?

Universal has a new transfer of Phantom that I believe looks pretty good, it also comes packaged with the Claude Rains version. As for the Metropolis question, I've been wondering that myself. It might be awhile before that's sorted out.

1) Milestone DVD.

Tinting leaves ghosting effect.

If you want VHS, go for Kino's release.

2) Patience.

Both.

Bad - The '29 redo in color leaves an impression of ghosting images on screen.

Good - it has a wonderful orchestral background score by Carl Davis plus alternate original soundtrack.

If you are not high about extra features, I would suggest getting the Kino VHS.

Or else, wait for a better release (most likely by Kino DVD).
