A fine weekend

For once, i had an AWESOME weekend. usually there is some catch, something manages to screw it up, but not this weekend. Sure, Lily threw some fits, but she is 3 (and very independant) and she has doen worse. Bree and I snapped at each other a few times, but we've always been like that. But:

I spent the afternoon yesterday with Lily, just the two of us. I lovehanging out with that kid, she is a riot. She has that 3 year old innocence, but she is easily smarter than the average 5 or 6 year old, so the crap she notices is amazing, and often REALLy funny.

As I have spammed many other threads with, i saw Punisher War Zone last night and LOVED it.

The best part, though, is named Barbara. Dont worry, I havent turned into a douche who screws around on his wife. No, Bree has been jonesing for a while now (3 months I would say) for another dog. Not that there is anythign wrong with Willow, she's not much more than a puppy herself (just over 2 human years old), but Bree grew up with 2 dogs and she has been dying for another.

She found one named Barbara the other day, a 1 year old Lab/pointer mix that was found as a stray. She took Lily to the shelter to meet her, and kept going on about how much she was like our Willow. I was sold on that, but we went through the paces. I met her, then we brought in willow to meet her to see how they got along.

Long story short, Barabara is an AWESOME dog and is already learning her name (shed only had it a few days when we got her, but Lily knows her as Barabar so we kept it), she has already learned to let me know she has to go to the bathroom, and she has gotten over her inital fear that when we told her she could get on the couch, we were going to beat her mercilessly for doing so (she is very meek right now. She was either a stray her whole life, which is doubtful because she already knew 'Sit', or someone treated her horribly)

A foine, foine weekend indeed lad.
Good to hear there seems to be a punisher film out actually worth seeing for once...and kudos on the new dog - I don't know why, I just think dogs are like the best thing ever to have with kids.

I loved it. It was mostly, as thenegative reviews have been saying, italian sterotypes and over the top excessive violence. It all depends on what you are going to see. If you want "Sense and Sensibility" or Even Iron Man, you arent going to get it. if you want to see The Punisher character come to life and brutally kill a whole shitload of people, then you might laugh liek a psycopath through the whole thing (which i did)

my weekend was ok - not great - not bad.

friday night - watched a bunch of battlestar galactica

took the car in saturday - problem with the steering that would have set me back $1000+ if it wasnt for the warrantee ..thank god for new cars ... got it when i was 45 and it was the 1st new car i ever owned in my life - i'll never buy a used car again as long as i live.

while i was waiting i wandered over to a liquidation warehouse and found some movies and some great mega-blox dragons stuff dirt cheap.
things that recently cost $40 - $50 selling for $12 so i bought a few of them.

then i had to go to a birthday party for a friend of my wifes. it was ok but i wasnt in the mood to leave the house.

sunday we lazed around - i was burning everything off of my computer in preparation for a complete rebuild, while playing Wii and building the mega-blox with my kid. We watched 4 episodes of Reaper as well which my kid really dug.

then finished the weekend watching Murder By Decree.

My Saturday sucked. (I work 12 hr shifts on weekends at a nursing home if you didn't know) One of my 'difficult' residents started her harassment upon all of the nursing staff (as she does daily), and I can usually take it all in and keep my mind straight and basically do what I can to please her but every now and then I can't handle it. I came close to a nervous breakdown but thankfully my coworkers handled the situation while I was outside cooling some steam and finally all was well again.

My Sunday was amazing. I couldn't have come into work with a better attitude or overall outlook on life. I left very early for work and I sat in my car and called up my mom. FYITowards the end of summer I found out that my mom had cancerous tumors throughout her body that generated from her colon and then spread to her ovaries, stomach lining, and liver. Obviously this was horrible, devastating news..The Dr.'s made it sound like she wasn't going to make it and even labled it stage 4. The only part they went to operate on was her ovaries because they first thought it was ovarian cancer..that was then when they saw all of the other tumors...so she had her ovaries removed but that was it...Since then she has been undergoing chemotherapy. I was at my wit's end trying so hard to pretend it was all just a nightmare.
well... last week she went to undergo all of the proper testing to see if the chemo was even working. She expected the results last week and told me that if they were bad she wasn't going to call me..which she didn't. I was worried to death but tried hard to brush it aside as much as I could. When I called her yesterday expecting to hear the worst she tells me that the tumors in her stomach and colon are completely gone, without a trace...no further spreading! AND the spots on her liver are shrinking and the DR.'s say that with her last 6 treatments they expect them to be small enough for surgical removal!!!!!!!!!!!! Meaning, my mom would be cancer free. I don't think I can truly explain with words how this makes me feel. And yet, I get this news right before Christmas! I'm amazed, astounded, shocked, enlightened..I just don't know. The weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I'm really happy.

Congrats on the new dog and the great weekend Vod! Sounds like you guys have a wonderful new addition to the family and Barbara has a loving new home and family. Great for all of you!

I grew up with a white boxer, she was the best dog. I've pretty much always had a dog in my life. I think having kids grow up with a good dog (or two) helps them grow up with a love of animals and a great respect for life in general.

I love hearing about our people's happy times at HDC. Really uplifting, especially at this magical time of year.
