Are you ready to relive the experience...AGAIN?!

December 4, 2008

Warner Bros. will re-release "The Dark Knight" on Jan. 23 in a nationwide launch, guaranteeing that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.

"Knight" has cumed $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally, leaving it less than $4 million short of the billion-dollar milestone. Only "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" have topped that mark.

"Knight" also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only behind "Titanic."

The re-release will come six weeks after the DVD launch of "Knight," set for Tuesday.

Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," he added.

(Of course they smartly avoid any mention of refreshing the critics and audiences before the Oscars roll out...eh?)

That's actually pretty annoying. I loved the film and all but I think those who really wanted to see it have and those who wanted to see it but couldn't find the time could watch it on DVD. Taking up theatre space that could be used for new films.

I never got to see it in IMAX, so I might go see it again at one of those theaters, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense to me.

Any word yet if it's getting a re-release in Canada, too?

I hope so...only got to catch it twice in theatres.

It would be nice to see it surpass Titanic for the #1 all time spot.

Pretty lame if it has to do it with a re-release though, it's like begging people to go see it. It was at cinemas for longer than any other movie this year already.. They should not be aloud to add the takings from the re-release to the origanal release.

I would hope so. IMDB lists the re-release as the IMAX version for the US.
