You've Been Outbid

i just lost a pair of 8" subwoofers in a box with free delivery for 20 bucks, i hate the last minute stealers! gotta ruin everything.

what are some of the things you almost had but been out bidded at the last minute in e-bay?

You just need to google ebay sniping service. You'll never win an auction without it- unless you bid rediculously high or nobody else wants the item.

Yeah that happens a lot on Australian Ebay as well.

Last week I was bidding for a Commodore 64 disk drive. Just 10 minutes to go, and the max bid was $5.50. It finally sold for $56.

Didn't really care that I missed it, as $56 is way too much IMO. A few days ago I got a Commodore 64, disk drive, about 200 disks, some tape games, a tape player for $41 plus postage.

But yeah, it is annoying to see something with just a few minutes to go that looks like a real bargain, only for last minute bidders to drive the price up beyond what it is worth.

i lost a laserdisc collection - and player once - nice selection and great player - and it was within driving distance. I was going to get it for next to nothing when i got beat at the last second by a guy who uses a service.

turned out he was a friend of mine - so i couldnt get too pissed.

i've been beaten on thousands of things but that was the only one i was upset about.

I once lost out ona autopgraphed picture of Gunnar Hansen. The picture was of the Sawyer Family sitting on their porch and Gunnar had signed and I got outbid at the last minute.I was super pissed.

I don't even bother looking at stuff that isn't ending within the hour. (Why bid up the price of something you want?) And then I try to be online when my item is ending so I can be the last minute sniper. I don't use any service (never knew such a thing existed), but I generally end up getting everything I want unless the price gets bid up to highin the last few minutes and I stop bidding on it.

To tell you the truth, I've lost tons of auctions but I can't really remember one that I really regret. I just ended up winning another auction, buying it at the store or forgetting about it altogether.

Same with me. Exactly. It's like we're ebay twins.

Just be a last minute stealer yourself Ribcut. Works every time. I honestly can't think of anything I haven't won.

If someone is using a sniping service they will beat you. They use high speed servers and place your bid for you in the last 5 seconds of the auction. If there is a counterbid they still have time to place another bid in the last 2 seconds.

ferretchucker 12-04-2008 07:54 AM

I usually wait until there is one minute left, have a small clock in front of me, start doing all the work towards a bid, then place it when I have just under ten seconds left. If they are using a sniping service then they will of course beat you, but as I said, I've never been beat for something I was willing to keep bidding for, so I've never come across someone using a sniping service.
