How did you guys begin?

Well tomorrow will mark the two week anniversary of me joining the bodacious bunch here on hdc (forgive me if you don't like bodacious I was trying to keep the b alliteration going) With that being said I wanted to know stories on how HDC got started, the forum, how you guys wound up on here, why you guys who have been around stayed as long as you have; and for the newbies reasons why they should'nt leave. I already told you guys I was referred here by Dante. Enough with the small talk, share the stories everyone. :)

Well, there's 4 or 5 members(maybe more) here who hate my guts, so now I'm stuck here!

The other horror websites I had seen were ok but not alot of material to filter thru.
Not alot of in-depth coverage for the entire spectrum of horror.
Either there was no sense of community or there was an unbreakable clique.

Then I found HDC.

When I first came here, there was alot of drama going on with major battles between several members and people getting banned and coming back with new names and getting banned again.
It was like a train wreck.

Well, that sealed the deal for me:)

BTW: You are one of the new people I am very glad is sticking around:cool:

I came here to pimp my movie... and then the movie fell apart

at work i was reporting to an asshole who was basically paying me to be at his beck and call ... but i rarely had anything to do... so i found the forum while actually looking for a horror forum to post in.

the 1st forum i ever went to was a british msn movie/entertainment forum.
was there quite a while but i got sick of dickheads starting fights so i left.

kind of became a pattern .. when the shit gets stupid - i just up and leave.

i posted a lot at hdc because i really had nothing else to do at work/i love horror movies/ and there were a small group of folks i used to (and to an extent still do) goof around with. I believe i had the highest postcount ever at that point - not that i really paid attention to it - but i heard about it all the time.

but ultimately - i'm here to find out about movies i dont know - and chat about the ones i do. (when thats quiet - as it often is - i ramble on incoherantly in the general forums.)

there are a couple of smaller forums i post on - rarely - but not like here.

thats about it really.

I came here to pimp my website, but it seemed shitty to just pimp my site and not chat, plus years before I had been pretty active on the counter-strike forums and (god help me...) theforce.net forums before that. (kind of working my way up the geek hierarchy from loser to acceptable)

I started bullshitting about movies i liked and games (mostly They Hunger at the time), then made friends with some people, particularly Phalanx (back when he was cheebacheeba) because he also liked to cook.

I am still a shamless self promoter (READ MY LATEST STORY) but spend more time chatting that anything. Once i came here, i had no reason to go anywhere else because I had already established a rapport with most of the regulars, and the interests of most memebers are diverse enough that horro is just a common bond, we talk about anyghitn.

That certainly didn't stop you from pimping... :p

GIALLO: Coming soon to theaters.

P.S. I still can't wait to see it, Sean. I'll be buying a ticket if and when it comes to Boston.

...

As for me, it was about a year ago, I had started my Blog and was in desperate need for a forum (it had been about three years since the last one I was part of dissolved). I Googled "Horror Forum" and this was the first one to come up. Actually, HDC places nicely in the search engines. Nice job with Search Engine Optimization, folks.

I was in sort of the same situation at work. I was a plant manager who was basically the owners bitch, but a lot of the time didn't have anything to do. So I started looking for some horror sites to read about horror to pass the time. I joined a few, but they weren't very active.

I had read HDC for a bit, and someone was asking a question I knew about. I still didn't join, but then I started thinking "Hey, I could of answered their question quickly, plus these guys seem to have some good discussions. I might as well join up."

After a few months, I was reading a Top 100 Horror list that pissed me off. So I decided to start a project. The rest is history, as they say.

I was always here! Since the dawn of time. Or at least that's what it feels like.

I don't remember how I ended up here. I was 12 when I signed up.
