I'm Disgusted

-From The Wahington Post-

From the looks of it, he did just what we taxpayers want from a government official charged with stewardship of our tax dollars.

Charles M. Smith, the top civilian responsible for tracking the performance of contractor KBR in Iraq, dogged the company about expenses it could not justify and warned executives they would suffer financial consequences if they did not improve.

What did he get for his trouble? He got booted from his job, according to a story by The New York Times' Jim Risen.

"Army auditors had determined that KBR lacked credible data or records for more than $1 billion in spending, so Mr. Smith refused to sign off on the payments to the company," Risen's story says.

Where is the oversight? Who is getting rich while our fighting men and women are dying?

Sorry for getting all political, but this really pisses me off. Whatever your stance on the war in Iraq, it is clear that no good can come from our tax dollars disappearing into the pockets of business contractors with close ties to the President.

Impropriety anyone?

Whats weirder is it seems that its common knowledge....and I'm a long way from the USA.

urgeok2 06-18-2008 09:16 AM

they cant account for billions of the trillions spent in the war so far.

it happens all the time .. profiteering...
pity it isnt the guys who are putting their lives on the line who are getting rich off of it.

You know what...

If you make a list of all the unaccounted and un-debited money in the US, it would amount to a pretty large sum.

...and I mean LARGE.

And this happens EVERY year, too.

Just where does it all go, eh?

Someone, somewhere...is making billions out of this fact. And nobody can do a thing about it.

Actually your wrong there, we can do something about it, but Americans in general don't give a shit as long as we've got our little comforts. You we can make the government do what we want, its just that we won't get up off of our own asses and actually do something about it. We rely on our representatives to go and speak for us, when all we need to do is get up and speak for ourselves. If every American got up, and told Washington that this is what we want, and if the don't give it to us they can get the fuck out, if we did that, then we could have a country that worked for the people, not the lawmakers and big business fucks. I mean seriously, you wouldn't let somebody else handle your checkbook would you? Why let some rich, greedy old fuck have say over what our money goes to?

To tell you the truth, we as Americans are fucking lazy, and we let everybody else make our discisions for us, which is why we are fucked.

The fact that the man appionted to the oversight job gets fired when he actually tries to do his job is what I find reprehensible.

There will always be war profiteers, but more than a BILLION DOLLARS missing? That's enough to rebuild New Orleans - or the Iraqi infrastructure for that matter (which is what the money was earmarked for in the first place)

That's the thing. Most honest citizens have no idea how much "unaccounted" money is actually accounted bills which came right out of their pockets.

As long as the guys at realpolitik and corporate biggies got their pockets full, nobody's complaining. At least half of it is money "not on record anywhere", and its pretty well over a billion dollars.

Goes to show why people in power never get their wells dry.

Do something about it then. America (powers that be) doesn't give a fuck about who it puts to death especially since most of it's "citizens" sit on the fence and complain about it and don't do shit. Put up or shut up, get off your asses cuz you're fucking it up for everyone else.
