publishing

i'm not an aspiring writer but i wrote a short story, intending to turn it into a film and a friend who is very paticular in taste said it was'amazing' and should keep it the way it is and get it published.
How would a total novice like me go about that?

My advice? Join a writers forum that critique each others work. Then you'll know of it's any good and you'll learn a hell of a lot.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

One option is to query some magazines and see if you get a hit. Always check their submission guidelines first though to make sure you don't waste yours and theirs time.

Also showing it to as many people that will read it can help, if they will be honest. Most of the time though, friends and family will say it's great even if it's crap. The comment about a writer's forum is a good way to go to get more honest feedback. One of the biggest is Writing.com.

Good luck.
