What film was that?

Hello,

I while ago I met an old friend I hadn't seen in a while. We got talking about horror films and such. He told me about this really scary film, but he couldn't remember the name of it. Obviously I got curious and anxious to see it. This is the description he gave me (as I remember it);
It was about this book, that when you read it you went insane. I think it was suppose to be from the mid 90's, the film that is, not the book in the film. That's pretty much all I know.
So if there is anyone out there who knows what films this might be, I would appriciate a reply.

Thank You!

El President

It sounds vaguely familiar but I have no clue.

Welcome aboard though.

If you like that sort of theme (i.e. going insane from reading/ viewing something) you may also like the film Cigarette Burns which was part of the Showtime Masters of Horror series. I recommend it... There's a crazy scene with a machete. It looks so real...
