Trure Horror fans give this thread a peek

Am I alone in the genre or is anyone NOT wanting all the re-makes of classic movies. I read an interview with the director of the new TCM and he said he was more or less supposed to be another installment in the series but the studio knew no one would go see TCM part 5. and Dawn of the dead??? WHY the FUCK do we need to remake that movie. And this is off topic but I read in the FvJ 2 thread that good ole BC wouldnt play ash (if he is in the movie) WHAT THE FUCK. Hollywood needs a slap on the ass and I am not talking about some little pat either. We need some good horror movies. Not remakes, not sequals, and def. not anymore of those shitty teeny bopper movies.

*end rant*

great rant error in xcellence i agree with u completely even morso about the shitty teeen horror movies

ShamSham04 01-04-2004 03:05 PM

Shitty teen horror movies...

That also includes anything related to the following movies:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 and 1974)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Halloween
Friday The 13th

I don't think any of those movies are shitty...but yah know, to each his or her own opinion, as I always say.

I agree 100 percent, errorinxcelence. This applies not just to horror, but all movies (I remember hearing about a remake of Casablanca. WTF!?!?)

But horror does particularly seem to be taking the brunt of this, which is especially disappointing because the genre lends itself so well to creativity and there is still a lot of potential out there for people to make new ORIGINAL movies.

If Hollywood wants these movies back in theaters, fine. I would have LOVED to have seen TCM re-released the same way Excorcist was a couple of years ago. If you have new footage you want to add to the flick that you think adds something to it, fine. I would also love to see a re-release of Dawn of the Dead instead of a remaking.

When a movie is so great, what's the point in trying to remake it?

I heard that it was to be a Bennifer project. This rumor, fact or fiction, was pre-Gigli, of course.

Another one I heard was that Harrison Ford and Clarista Flockhart were going to remake Breakfast at Tiffany's. Ick.

They are reluctant to spend money on a new idea when they can use an idea that is proven to have made money. Eventually they will run out of ideas to remake and we will have films about stupid shit like Slinkys.

just a short bout of support here, I have to say I agree about the remake ok dawn of the dead....why the fuck? Do they really think they're gonna out-do THE BEST DAMN ZOMBIE FILM EVER???
First of all, they can't and won't...
Secondly, who here thinks they need to?

Sam The Egg 01-04-2004 07:45 PM

Teens...that's who goes to see the movies. That's mostly who went to see them in the 70's and 80's. The only thing stopping the movies from being as gorey is the protesting. Stop blaming them for making movies geared towards teens, as that's the core audience for horror movies. Blame the religious fundamentalists, blame PETA, blame ANY organization that's for any specific race or religion or that has a cause, because no matter what group it is, eventually something in movies will piss them off, and that's when the protests come, and that's what kills horror movies.

Just a note I want to add to this thread I just read today in Maxim magazine. A nationally distributed magazine that Bruce Campbell's people have been talking with the FvJ 2 people.

I actually don't mind remakes. I though the new TCM was fucking great. And I know I'm not alone here. However, from the trailer I saw the new Dawn of the Dead doesn't look promising at all. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised though. Oh yeah, and what's wrong with teens? I'm a teen myself, only 19, but I consider myself pretty damn knowledeable in the modern horror genre.

As much as i dislike the idea of remaking these classic horror films its better than the genre dying or falling into the horrible 90's slasher films, I know what you did last summer, Scream etc
