Execution and torture...

Don't even ask me why i'm interested, but, what were the most brutal forms of execution and torture, from any time period?

You guys are really coming through with threads these last couple of days. ;)

hanged, drawn and quartered. Called "Drawn and Quartered"

Details of the punishment
Until 1870, the full punishment for the crime was to be "hanged, drawn, and quartered" in that the convict would be:

Dragged on a hurdle (a wooden frame) to the place of execution. (drawn)
Hanged by the neck for a short time or removed until almost dead. (hanged).
Disembowelled, and the genitalia and entrails burned before the victim's eyes (often mistaken for drawing).
Beheaded and the body divided into four parts (quartered).
Typically, the resulting five parts (i.e. the four quarters of the body and the head) were gibbeted (put on public display) in different parts of the city, town, or, in famous cases, country, to deter would-be traitors. Gibbeting was abolished in England in 1843.

My favorite method of execution is still impalement, but I have to give the most cruelty points to being drawn and quartered. I'll write a big post on impalement is a minute. :)

The worst torture that I have ever experienced was watching Darkness Falls.

I don't know, there are sooooo many. I did run across an interesting thing about cannibal tribes a while back.

When the Doboduras capture an enemy, they slowly torture him to death, practically eating him alive. When he is almost dead, they make a hole in the side of the head and scoop out his brains with a kind of wooden spoon. These brains, which are often warm and fresh, were regarded as a great delicacy. No doubt the Notus recognized some of their relatives amid the ghastly relics...

We were talking in subdued tones for some time, expecting every moment to hear the thrilling war-cry of the Doboduras. We could hear the dismal falsetto howls of the native dogs in the distance, and they were not particularly exhilarating at such a time, and I more than once mistook them for distant war-cries.

The Papuans do not as a rule torture their prisoners for the mere idea of torture, though they have often been known to roast a man alive – for the reason that his meat is supposed to taste better thus. I have heard of cases of white men having been roasted alive, one case being that of two miners, Campion and King. But we had learned that this Dobodura tribe had a system of torture that was brutal beyond words.

In the first place they always try to wound slightly, and capture a man alive, so that they can have fresh meat for many days. They keep their prisoners tied up alive in the huts, and cut out pieces of their flesh just when they want them; we were told that, incredible as it may seem, they sometimes manage to keep them alive for a week or more, and have some preparation which prevents them from bleeding to death.

I went to Medieval Times (great place, fun times!) with a friend for his birthday when we were about 11. We snuck into the "torture room", even though you had to be 16 or something to get in, and got a lot of nice imagery.

I specifically remember one for women that rips their tits right off.

There was one where a man stuck his cock in a "hole of pleasure", which then proceded to severe it from your body.

Ah, Medievel Times...

these enlightened people thought the most appropriate way to deal with him was a burning hot rod straight up his anus and through his body.

what kind of a human could do that to someone else ?

He may have enjoyed it for the first few inches.

sorry.....no need for that.

Think his nickname was "Hot Rod"?

In an impalement the victim is driven ass first on a long stake (or maybe in the mouth for extra style points). They either let gravity slowly impale the victim until he died from blood loss, or the stake would be inserted with special care to avoid immediate death. People have lasted 3 or 4 days with a stake going from their butthole to their shoulders. There were a bunch of variations, all genius in their own right. So much genius behind impalement. :)

I also liked the hanging people be hooks torture because it takes a long time for people to die aswell, hook through the abdomen can't feel too good.
