Its not finished, but....

I have been working on starting a web design and programming business for a while now, and i finally have the site up. it is 90% complete, i just have to incorporate the logo graphics and a spiffy background, but here is the URL:

http://darktreedesign.net/

its one more step towards indepandance. I have a "customer" of sorts right here in this very forum, but i am working pro bono, or more acurately, for our mutual benefit. (So its for free.) Because I need a portfolio.

I may be able to swing a similar deal for other folks, which is why i am posting this here. So far i have Scaredyet.org, and soon enough the other, but i could use a couple more. PM me if you are interested.

whats the cost on this ? my wife needs one for her art :)

the prices are listed on the site, but, the first several i am doing free of charge to build a portfolio.

If she doesnt already have one, it would cost for the domain name registration and purchasing the web hosting. i go through godaddy.com for that, so it would cost about $75.48 for a year of hosting a deluxe plan, and $8.95 for a .com domain.

if all she wanted was simple static content, it could go as low as $43.08 for a year of hosting.

Edit: I just noticed that the domain name registration is only $1.99 with a hosting plan, so the cheapest for a year would be $45.07

I was a webmaster for a company a while back, ranges from challenging to boring on a regular basis. Good luck!

economy site: $76.56 for 2 years of hosting, plus $1.99 for domain registration.
Deluxe site: $134.16 for 2 years.

No problem Dave. :)

I can use the references.

I worked for a CD Importing company which was a great way to get some rare CDs but it was soooo boring. Before I started he didn't even take CCard orders online heh.

My big break came in 2001 when I landed a job as a help desk analyst. Based on a knack for fixing computers and troubleshooting their issues, I became a quick consideration for the job, but it was knowing HTML that actually got me hired. At the company I worked for, the helpdesk maintained its own website, and it had been largely ignored for the previous 3 years. My new boss made a deal with me, if I could clean up the site, he would get me training.

It took 3 months of arduous work, but I managed to trim down a massive mess of a website (over 2 gigs space used, and close to 600 files), down to less than a tenth the size, and with a consistent look and feel.
I wanted to claw my eyes out by the time this was done.

Are you asking if i would help your wife with designing and building the site? absolutely :)

Part of the "package" i will be selling will be a tool that will allow the people who own the site to update it themselves, in case they never want to deal with me again :)

Sounds like a chore but at least you had stuff to do, I would come in and do an hour of work then sit around for seven hours playing games and listening to music. Boring really.

It was endless hours (4 a day, i had to spend the other 4 answering tech support calls) mucking through thousands of lines of html in some cases, clearing out inline styles (most of the pages were made by saving word documents as web pages... uck) and reformatting everythign to use company standard css files, and tracking down which files were no longer used... it was awful, great experience though.
