When A Stranger Calls, remake vs. original

I have seen both versions of the horror movie/thriller When A Stranger Calls. I personally think the original is a far better film, as it conveys genuine terror in the first 20 minutes, and the middle part is spent in a decent character development of the killer. The ending is very suspenseful and well done. The remake was definitely an inferior film, as the acting is not that great and there is generally no follow through. But that's just my opinion.

Which version of this movie do you prefer?

When a stranger calls (1979)

I don't like the remake.

IMO it's like comparing apples and oranges. The original is far superior because it does more than focus on the "stalked babysitter" urban legend. That gets old after about 20 minutes. If you don't believe me, just watch the remake. That being said, my main problem with the remake is that it seems to be more occupied with setting things up for a sequel than providing a really good movie.

SPOILER ALERT

And I knew they wouldn't kill the kids in the remake.:D That's way too hardcore for our modern sensibilities.

Love the original, haven't bothered to see the remake and probably never will.
Black Christmas is better for the creepy fucker on the phone thing.

Never really had much desire to watch either of them...should probably check out the original though, I suppose.

It has one of the best openings ever and a great ending.
