Reign of Fire

okay, not strictly horror, but definately a dark modern fantasy, so close.

Anyone else like this movie? Personally, i think it succeeded where most Sci-Fi channel movies fail (sorry Rod) when trying to take a modern spin on a traditional monster, in a more modern setting.

granted, it has its faults... Even I dont buy the Single male theory.... but, that is how you deal with painting yourself into a corner.

I loved the attempt at scientifically explaining the fire breathing. I enjoy the backstory about them killing the dinosaurs. I even like them just being animals.

This is the first movie i saw with Christian Bale where i was aware of him being Christian Bale. I also enjoyed Matthew McOn whatever as a cold-hearted bad ass. Very different for him since he always seems to play the nice laid back guy.

Saw this when it first ame out and didnt think much of it, but Ive since became a huge Christian Bale fan, so I think I'll give it another chance. Doesnt really look too bad.

I really dont know what people were expecting. I enjoyed that it was mostly understated, and not in a pretentious M Night Shyamalan kind of way (WAY too somber...), but had a ncie, gritty feel to it.

And the dragons are just great. Vicious looking and realistic. Nice mix of CGI and practical effects.

They made a game? Is it any good?

urgeok 01-02-2007 07:18 AM

dunno - only got a few seconds in.. it was one of the 1st ones we got and my kid wasnt as able with the controls as he is now.
he was having a frustrating time trying to drive a truck around so he abandoned it.

i bet he'd be into it more now - he's pretty good at games these days.

Good movie, lots of fun.

I have the game, and it's alright for awhile, but buy it used and cheap. You get to shoot dragons. It's fun for awhile, but it gets old fast. Supposably there's a point in the game where you actually get to be a dragon and terrorize everything...but I never got that far.

I saw this the day it came out in the theater - it was my birthday and I got WRECKED the night before, so I neede something brainless to enjoy in the theater.

I loved it.

So simple and silly and fun...and McC was sooooo amazingly over-the-top. His performance makes me laugh really hard - which is always a good thing.

And no offence, Alky. I'd love it if any of my SciFi Channel shit was half this good.

PLUG - keep your eyes peeled for my Attack of the Gryphon coming soon to SciFi!!! It ain't a dragon, but it's close.
