Havent bothered to see this one...based on the previews, I'd have to agree.

It does seem to have a pretty solid cast though...

If I see it cheap somewhere I'll pick it up, it'll likely be hitting the good ol' used bin at Blockbuster pretty soon.

One of the few films in recent memory that I was REALLY SORRY I spent money on. I paid eight bucks plus parking to see this.

I liked House on Haunted Hill. :(

But yeah. American Haunting looks to be just terrible. I'll take a pass on this one.

Totally disappointing...I regret watching this one. I thought it would be a decent enuff flick on the Bell Witch, and after the first 20-odd minutes I felt I was right. But then, the movie hit a shitstorm and went downhill in a concorde...

***POSSIBLE SPOILER***

Wtf was the incest angle all about anyway?

Couldnt care too less...an awful movie. Dont let the "based on true events" mis-lead you into losing some hard-earned $$s.

what excatly does "fluff shit" mean?

yep the previews turned me off too ..

want to get me to not watch a horror movie ?
make a claim that it's 'based on a true story'

BloodRedFlower 10-26-2006 08:43 AM

Come on.. it wasn't THAT bad. A bit slow and boring, yes, but I kinda liked the story behind it. Maybe it shouldn't be considered a Horror movie, it's more like a supernatural drama. On the Horror genre it did suck.

crabapple 10-26-2006 09:09 AM

The irony is that it actually had great source material.

If you go into the spook literature and read up on what supposedly happened during the "Bell Witch" haunting--whether you believe that stuff or not, it doesn't matter--you'll find the seeds of what could've been a really interesting cinematic tale. Had they actually filmed it instead of making up stuff and adding morphing ghosts and putting in a couple of stupid Ghost Girls (inspired by certain recent films which shall go nameless), they would have had an interesting film.

Hell, it would have been great. They had all the resources to make a respectable period ghost film with great costumes, atmosphere, production style. They had the money to hire a solid cast.

When I heard about what the film was supposed to be, I rushed right out to see it. A real bummer.

I mean, think about it...a realistic haunted house story that takes place in the early 1800's. Done correctly, it would have been both scary as hell and very respectable. Normal people would have gone to see it with the two principal castmembers they did have. Did I say normal people? Okay...mainstream audiences, then.
