Anyone like real gothic novels?
 

I'm talking MG Lewis and Maturin, and modern guys like Patrick McGrath--not wannabes like Tom Picirilli (Choir of Ill Children was a true waste of time; he needed to find a plot)

What do you consider a gothic book?

I read Anne Rice and Poppy Z. Brite

Do you consider those writers gothic?

Yeah, I consider Rice and Brite gothic. Brite sent me a few letters and some cool pics. She's groovy. Exquisite Corpse and Lost Souls are very cool. Haven't read the latest Rice novel.

Dont really like anything by Anne rice, but I do like John Saul, and S. Wheatly, Laurall k hamilton, do you consider them goths? If not give me some real goth books so I can be scared for ones, some of these wonna be goth writers should be writing lullabys, they make you wont to fall asleep

I was mainly talking about the original gothic novels that pretty much invented horror fiction. M.G. Lewis' "The Monk" was written around 1790 or so and is one of the best horror novels I've ever read. It's very cool. Robert Maturin's "Melmoth the Wanderer" is good, as is Nathanial Hawthorne's "The House of the Seven Gables."

Is John Shirley's Demons a gothic novel to you?
