French Horror - Maléfique
 

It occured to me, the other day, that far too few people have seen this film.

Maléfique

It's different than most in that, as far as I remember, there is not one scene where something jumps out at the viewer. No quick spurts of music meant to surprise you, nothing. Instead the film starts with such complete weirdness that it uneases you. The movie takes place almost exclusively in a jail cell, with a man that has massive tits and likes to dress as a woman, a spastic guy who eats anything he sees, a strange old man, and the protaganist, a good person by no means, who is in jail for commiting massive financial fraud.

From there, it just gets odder and odder and odder.

saw this one some time ago, right before haute tension.

good, disturbing movie. i enjoyed it a lot. certainly shows hope for french horror.

i'm on a kick of weird and disturbing french films. . . just watched Cache, Fat Girl, Baise-moi, and Irreversible - i'll look for this one to add to my french weirdness

then you definitely want to check out another one of catherine breillat's films, Romance X.

porn star rocco siffredi's first "real" acting job. very bizarre. i still don't know what to make of it.
