I'm a fan of William Castle's, but 13 Ghosts is not his strongest movie. Hokey is the word for it. But I HATE the remake. So I really couldn't recommend either to you. I do say that the original definitely does not fit in with your tastes (as far as the things you have posted goes) Moon.

I only know of one 13 Ghosts movie. I never heard of the old one.
Does it go by the same title?

Old 13 is really a blast. It has Martin Milner from Adam 12. It's like Leave it To Beaver in a haunted house. Remake was sooo boring. I'm just happy nude ghost died after breast implants were invented. The original 13 has a ghost of a headless circus guy who got his head chomped off by a lion.
