The Keep

I found this movie on amazon, and it looks pretty cool. It has Ian McKellan and Jurgen Prochnow, and it's about nazis who take over an old fortress that's been built inside out to keep in a demon, at least that's what I gather from the description. The only problem is it's one of those rare, out of print movies and the cheapest I can get it for is 27.00 for a VHS.
Does anybody have any opinions on if it's worth it?
I haven't seen it.

I think this one is overrated (ouch!), having had a go at it twice.

Something about the setting, the actors and Michael Mann's uneven direction makes it simply rather dull and confusing and I can't understand why the film is so highly regarded.

Some sequences are probably surreal enough to hold the interest, however.

For what it's worth, I like it.

i love it :)

i love the music .. the weird concept ..
i thought the actors (fantastic cast) did a great job and took the oddball subject material seriously..

i never found it confusing (but i had read the book before) and i saw it at an impressionable age ..

one of my all time favorites ..

overrated be damned :p

(not many people even know it exists !)

ditto

perhaps the book [ it was too long ago for me to remember] filled in some gaps.

Didnt it have scott glenn and a bunch of Tangerine Dream Music?

*runs to IMDB*

Yes, yes it was. I started watching it YEARS ago with a freind who continually extolled the virtues of Tangerine Dream music. He was also long-winded enough to completely destroy any shred of me that liked Pink Floyd.

Flame all you want, i like none of it.

Sounds like something I'm gonna have to buy, steep price be damned. Controversy breeds interest.
I love 80's horror. Especially set to the music of Tangerine Dream:D
