How not to be scared

OK, This might be dumb to talk in this forum since most people here love horror movies, but I need some helps.

Long before when I was a teen, I have no problem watching horror movies at all. I were not a biggest fan, but I were okay watching them. But for the last couple of years, I began to feel scared when watching horror movies.

I know that many people here will agree the horror feeling that I get when watching horror movies is what I want to have. However, mine is different. After watching each horror movies with my girl friend (she seems to like them), I often can't sleep for several days, even a full week. I feel that there will be things in the movies that will happen to me...

I perfectly understand that most of these stuffs are just movies, even they're based on some facts, the chance they occur to me will just be one in a million. But...

Lately, I have been trying to "train" myself by watching horror movies like Psycho and the Ring, but the problem seem worst. Now, I am trying to avoid everything that associates with horror.

This problem must go away, but I need some helps, anyone has some suggestions?

Watch them over and over until they don't scare you anymore.
That's what I did with Alien.:)

Stop putting 's' at the end of words that don't need them. All your problems will be solved then. :) j/k

Anyway, try watching Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds". It used to play on TV every year when I was a kid and my family made it a yearly event to watch it, just like the Wizard of Oz (they used to play that every year too). To this day, I still love The Birds movie (and the Wiz of Oz too). Might be a good movie for you to get used to horror movies without scaring the shit out of you.

whenever you're watching a scary movie, or are scared because of a movie you saw, picture a midget sucking off a dead pony. Then you won't be scared anymore

OMG, now I'M going to think of that when I see a scary part of a movie! Thanks Sam. :)

when you picture it, do you imagine the midget will be male or female?

Well, this is very armchair of me, but you might try watching some light horror comedy, it'll calm you down. Try "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" and some Simpsons Halloween episodes...they will help you to view some of this horror media in a humorous light.

Then there's the other approach of simply NOT WATCHING something if it unnerves you that much; there are many examples of movies that I find unpleasant for various reasons, and I just don't watch them.

You may not be a serious horror fan in the making (certainly not everyone is), but many horror fans grew up enjoying this kind of entertainment, and for the most part feel very comfortable, and even chummy, with it.

If it bothers you that much, just don't watch it. Horror isn't for everyone.
