80s Slashers
 

After the immense success of Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street etc. and cult icons like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger & Leatherface having a huge fan following...the 80s had a lot of slasher movies to offer. I have seen quite a lot of em so I decided to ask you guys, which is your most fav 80s slasher?

my fav is "Intruder" aka "Night Crew", made by Scott Spiegel. It had a cheesier plot than the other average slashers, showed the happenings of one night, and I loved the way the deaths were shown. The killer also used a wide variety of tools for the deaths, which was also something different, plus it added to the gore (there is plenty of it). Also Bruce Campbell in it playing a cop (he didnt have much to do tho, since he has only a few minutes on-screen).

I have the cut version. I heard there was an uncut one available but I havent got my hands on it yet.

If you havent seen it, check it out. Worth a watch. Rated - 07/10

The cut version is missing key gore shots from most of the murders.

Some nice inventive camera angles, including from inside a mop bucket, and on a door knob!

I know, and I ve always wanted it. Where can I get the uncut version?

Well, 80s slashers are far from classics, but, of course, I still love them.

My favorite 80s slasher would have to be Friday the 13th: Part 3.

If I could go any era, it'd be Halloween and Psycho.

I watched most of em on VHS. Damn tough to find most of those on DVDs...

makes me wanna take my old VHS player out and hunt for those :D

You never should've put it away in the first place!

I fuckin' love this genre despite all the shit it gets.
Maniac easily takes the cake for me even tho it verges more on the serial killer style flick. A brilliant preformance by Joe Spinell puts this way above the majority of the shit in this genre. Maniac set a lot of standards.
The Prowler is pure gold aswell and definatley ranks up there and is a truely underated classic of the horror genre. There's some great jump outta your seat scares and a shower scene to end all shower scenes.
The sheer brutality of these two films (complimented by some of Savini's best effects work these films have the two best head exploding scenes you could ever hope to see!) puts them way above a lot of the slasher films produced in this period.
The New York Ripper however is the finest example of what the slasher genre is all about. Totally nasty minded and misoginistic. The graphic violence is exploited in such a voyeristic fashion that the viewer is like a witness to a crime. A totally unsettling experience.
Terror at the Opera is great for the total sadism of the villian. Several times the leading lady is tied up, gagged and has pins taped to her eyelids preventing her to close her eyes to the brutal murders committed in front of her. Very fucked up but a great device put a more sinister tone on the film for me.
I really enjoy My Bloody Valentine also because of the great likable characters. This attachment to the characters added the extra excitment during the stalk and slash scenes. Makes a change from the moronic cannon fodder that litters these films. Hopefully we'll get to see the full uncut version of this film one day (there's something like 9 minutes of gore edited out). The makers have the footage but have been tied up in negotiations with Paramount to release the film uncut.
The Slumber Party Massacre is a classic aswell. Rita Mae Brown's script is pretty dope parody of the genre from a feminist perspective so there's some great tongue in cheek humour in this film. Lots of nudity, some decent gore and a girls vs the over the top but creepy villian storyline make this film for me. Possibly one of the best dispatchings of the bad guy ever!
I've got lots of favorites but these are the ones that stick out for me, and if we were covering all eras Mario Bava's Bay Of Blood would definatley have to get a mention.

It's standard screen(unfortunatly)but completely uncut and unfucked with.
