quick question
so when was the last time you saw a melon baller? Cause I don't remember the last time I saw one
|
Twenty years ago. Maybe longer.
|
yeah, you just don't see them things anymore...weird...
|
You can still get them from Lakeland, I saw one a couple of weeks ago and man do my melons need balling!
|
I have one in my apartment. I don't use it though... I mean, I enjoy cantaloupe, but I never buy the shit.

Melon ballers are nowadays referred to in a lot of places as "parisienne cutters", and should be available through any decent cookwear/chef supply stores.
I have one, and it wasn't the most common item to find, but they are still out there. If you want a good one that won't snap off at the end, you have to get the SOLID metal ones, mine cost me $14AUD which I guess is someplace around $9-10USD. I wouldn't use them for desserts as much as I would potatoes...melon balls are like...70's. |
Yeah, we had a few of them when I worked in a catering kitchen a couple years ago. I never noticed them becoming scarce.
But if you want to talk about a useless kitchen utensil... Me & my wife got a garlic press as a wedding present. How many people do you know in their mid-20s that 1. spend much time in the kitchen cooking or 2. Cook with whole garlic cloves when they are cooking? That is 1 wedding present I don't think we will EVER use. |
