I am a "Clinical Insomniac" and have been dealing with it for several years now, so I have a lot of practice...

First thing to do is try to narrow down why your having so much trouble falling asleep. You've already started by cutting out caffine, but there are many other causes possible.

Some people that have difficulty in falling asleep are considered "Situational Insomniacs", that is, their sleep deprivation is directly related to one or more causes, such as, but not limited to; stress brought on by problems at work/school/ family, sexual frustration, depression, excitement over a new job, a new partner, new medication, change in routine, upcoming vacation... etc.) If this is you, once the stress is over, your old sleeping habit should return.

A Clinical Insomniac" is basically a person that can go to bed exhausted and as soon as they try to relax...BOOM... they can't shut down their brain and go to sleep. Their brain is flooded with thoughts about everything from what they plan on having for breakfast in the morning to the latest stock quotes and the name of the actor in the movie...? and back again. (Of course, you have to rule out the situational, environmental and diet stuff first).

If you are unlucky enough to be a "Clinical Insomniac" such as me, then it usually involves a trip to the Doctor for prescription sleeping medication, followed by a "sleep study." I have had good luck with Ambien and Rozerem, which I take unless I have been drinking alcohol. If I have a buzz on from drinking, I have no trouble in falling asleep.

*Disclaimer* I am not suggesting in anyway that you drink any alcohol in any form! :D

I say you just pop a couple of Tylenol PM's ;) Then you won't have to worry about what to do when you're up...cause you'll be fast asleep! ;)
