Lord of Illusions
I hadent seen this movie in a while and I just watched it a couple nights ago on Showtime.. It wasent as I remembered it...I think I like it more now that I have seen it again... My favorite part was when Scott Bacula walked in on the Terrot Card reader getting his...to fucking awesome..then again I really like the "Sword" part.
What was your favorite part of the movie or did you even like it? |
The tarot card reader scene was pretty bad ass. I don't know that I really have a favorite scene though. Originally I just watched the movie because it had Scott Bakula in it and I was a HUGE Quantum Leap fan. I didn't even know that it was based on a Clive Barker book. I didn't even know who Clive Barker really was. And then I watched the movie, fell in love, and watched Hellraiser. And now I'm a HUGE Clive Barker fan. Well, maybe not a HUGE fan because I haven't read and seen all I've wanted to yet, but still a BIG fan :0)
Yea and this movie is still one of my favorite movies. |
I think in all honest I thought to myself umm Scott Bacula and Clive Barker..cant go wrong..I used to watch Quantum Leap all the time..awesome series..CLIVE BARKER FUCKING RULES:D
|

He's GAY????? I did not know that NO FUCKING WAY!!!
Well regardless he's still fucking awesome in my book..His shit is untouchable;) |
Here's my thoughts on the film:
Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions is a terrifying glimpse into another world in which few have traveled. Those who have been there, didn't like what Barker had to show them. I wasn't even impressed with it upon my first viewing. I simply forgot it, lumped it in with the other, countless horror films I've seen and will never see again. However, I recently rediscovered it...and was completely awestruck. The theatrical release did not do the film justice. It dropped priceless minutes of film and much need footage. I strongly urge you to seek out the uncut director's version on DVD format. This is a very big horror movie, and a hidden treasure at that; hidden under a brilliant detective story and surrounded by film noir. But I promise you there is a horror spectacle buried under there. It may be a little slow going at times...but all that build-up makes whatever happens all the more effective. Lord of Illusions is an unbelievably awesome, genre-twisting experience (and was never bastardized by a sequel). Everyone needs to take this journey again. Please Mr. Barker...make another film. |
i guess its one of those movies you have to see twice at least, i altso remember it being quite booring the first time around, though second time around i did see the directors cut, i hear clive bitched quite about about what they cut it into for the theatrical release.

LORD OF ILLUSIONS
I *love* LORD OF ILLUSIONS. I think it's one of the most original, genre-bending films of all time. Definitely one of my favorites. Probably my single favorite horror movie of the 90s.
Dammit, I wish Clive would direct again . . . . James N. http://members.tripod.com/~NEWMANATOR/index.html |
