The Grammys
OK - I'm probably the only dork stupid enough to actually watch the Grammys - and probably most of the HDC folks could care less about them. SO, rather than put up a list of winner - I wanted to put my insightful observations:
Biggest Disappointment: Opening with Gorillaz (one of my absolute favorite 'bands') and Madonna - the G's (in really creepy 3D animated form) sounded awful and looked (have to admit it) silly - Madonna looked her age and gave good evidence of her utter lack of talent. Biggest Surprise: U2. They won album and song of the year - to be honest I haven't bought a U2 album in years but suddenly they seem to be on top. Most Awful Acceptance: Well, to be honest, almost all of them. They were just overwhelmingly wretched. If I had to choose - I'd give it a tie between Kanye West (who seemed to be hiding his nervousness behind a sheet of paper with the words "Thank You List") and Bono - whose first acceptance rant - about circuses and elephants - was so cringe-worthy (sort of Ricky Gervais in the BBC version of the Office) that the Edge finally stepped forward and gave the "regular" acceptance speech. Strangest moment: well, given that the show opened with an animated band playing with a 50 year old broad in tights, it certainly started strange. BUT - by far the oddest moment was the tribute to Sly and the Family Stone - Sly Stone comes out - looking about 90 years old but still dressed in shiny silver leather jacket and an improbable bleach blonde mohawk. He paws at the piano and seems to mumble into the microphone for about a minute before shuffling back off. Worst Example of Censorship: Personally I'm horribly disappointed in a "rock" award show where no one uses the "F" word - and even the dude from Green Day said "Freakin". But, I cannot imagine how they could do the Sly and the Family Stone medley and NOT include "WAR - HuH Good God what is it GOOD FOR - absolutely nothing, say it again". What kind of George Bush flag-waving nonsense is that?!?!? Classiest moment: Gotta give it to the Boss. Bruce Springsteen gave a powerful performance of his "Devils and Dust" (which also won Best Rock Vocal), which ended with him simply stating "Bring 'em Home." pure class. Most Trailer Trash Moment: Kelly Clarkson - who still looks like she could be serving me coffee and smacking on gum. Best Performance: They did get better and better - and Kanye West was good, Bruce was powerful, Mariah had an amazing voice - but I think the nod goes to Paul McCartney and Helter Skelter - simply put - it rocked. And, finally Oddest Omission: Awards??? The show featured only about 10 or so actual awards given - and a constant scrolling of the many other awards. Hell, even the Lifetime Achievement Awards were given in like 10 seconds. Lots of performances - few features and little real respect to some of the legends (Merle Haggard, David Bowie, the Weavers - these were important artists largely dismissed - sad). |
This response is a shameless excuse to see what my new avatar looks like on the forum. I figured monkey boy's post was as good a useless piece of shit as I was gonna find to waste space in. :D

Meh...No one that I like (or would even be interested in) will ever be nominated for a grammy anyway....And I really don't know who any of the people are that DO get nominated...So, it really doesn't have anything to offer for me....PLUS, I hate television...
