Society?
In my Social Studies class, we had a rather interesting debate today about the definition of society.
Basically, we came to the question Should a well-established, well-populated forum/chatroom be considered a society? After all, it is a group of people, with their own territory, thier own "laws", and more often than not, their is a form of government in the form of Admins/Mods. Personally, I dont see any way you could argue against it. We fall into the definitions of society, why shouldnt we be considered as society? |
Society-
-The totality of social relationships among humans. -A group of humans broadly distinguished from other groups by mutual interests, participation in characteristic relationships, shared institutions, and a common culture. -The institutions and culture of a distinct self-perpetuating group. -An organization or association of persons engaged in a common profession, activity, or interest. Sounds like it to me. |

Do I have to be part of the society, or can I just be a tourist?
|
If Haunted's a tourist, I wanna be the tour guide that tricks her into thinking we're visiting Dom DeLouise's house before stealing all her money.
|
I don't think so! First of all, I would never take a tour of Dom Delouise's house even if this is a horror forum. Second of all, I've already bought the tour guide.:D It's called: 2 Lexapro a Day: Surviving Horror.com

Society?
[1] A group of human beings [2] The company of human beings [3] Interpersonal contact [4] communication.... Communication may be the clincher if you really want to be in a cyberspace "society", but this observer would rather draw essential seperating distinctions between a wildly impersonal medium and system that nurtures freedom of speech generally without teaching consequence... and points [1], [2] & [3]. |
