should gender matter?

just a quick question.....should the gender of the diector matter when making a horror movie? i personally think it shouldn't and that what a director brings to the table as far as ability to tell a story matters more than what gender the director is. what are your thoughts?

bwind22 12-22-2005 09:31 PM

You're right it shouldn't, but I think it does.

I like my horror gory and if I know woman directed the film, I automatically assume it will have less shot of being a gory masterpiece. I have no problems with female directors in other genres but in horror, I like it bloody, and being the more sensitive sex, women don't tend to go for that as much.

I'm sure I'm overlooking some, but off the top of my head I can't think of 1 aweome horror film directed by a woman.

That is not a knock on women. I think it'd be cool if one of you ladies actually did make a kick ass horror movie, but so far, I don't think I've seen it.

slumber party massacre 3 was directed by a woman i think. and the women i know have a more sick and twisted imagination than a lot of guys i know, but can they put it on screen? that's the question........

Gender shouldnt matter at all...

MisterSadistro 12-22-2005 09:59 PM

Absolutely not (unless you happen to be the director and this is some "casting couch" reference thing for a guy who wants to be in your movie- not that there's anything wrong with that).

It shouldn't matter at all. I'd be pretty cool to see a horror film written/directed by a woman...I can't think of any at the moment either...it'd be interesting for sure.

i agree with bwind,it should'nt matter but it does.Mary Lambert(pet semetary 1 and 2) is the only woman director i can think of off the top of my head.

at any rate the number of male "horror" directors greatly outnumbers that of women "horror" directors.

that's very true there aren't that many female directors. but is that by choice or just closed doors because of gender?
