Unrated Land of the Dead on DVD on October 18

Can't wait to see what the unrated version is like. So many people were disappointed that the theatrical version was rated R.

Ive read that there wasnt alot cut in the first place, which is disapointing. I was satisfied with the gore in the theatrical version though...sure, it wasnt up to Day standards, but it sure coulda been worse.

Land of the Dead is classified as a 15 here, i put that down to the overall relaxing of the sensors which has slowly emerged over the past few years. I was quite happy with the gore levels, too much more could have detracted from the film

I think anticipation has a lot to do with suspense. When people hear it was cut to get an R, they think, "Oh well, compromise -- not scary." But when you actually see the film, there was some pretty extreme stuff by the standards of a major studio release.

For those interested, there's a chance to win a free DVD of the unrated version of the film here:

A lot of these "unrated" versions are kind of a ploy. It seems pretty arbitrary what's R and what's unrated.

Definately. It'll have 6 more "fuck"s or "shit"s and one more head explosion. Whoopty-fucking-doo.

Well, yeah, technically "unrated" means literally what is says: that the film was not rated by the MPAA. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's far more intense and graphic than the R-rated version.

I guess the question is: are we really seeing an uncompromised "director's cut," or did they just add back in few more frames of blood so that they could sell it as the "unrated" version?

thought everyone knew that there would ALWAYS be two versions of the film. george HAD to supply a rated version of the film for theatrical release while he was allowed to have his version released unrated.

why this rated version is being released on dvd is another question

Always about the money isn't it? Release the cinematic film on dvd and a few months later release another extended 'uncut' version with a few more extras. Its idiots like me who keep buying them!

In this case, both versions are being released on the same day. So it's not as if you have to buy the R-version now and the unrated version later (unlike THE GRUDGE -- where the PG-13 version has an audio commentary with somebody mentioning that a director's cut version will be out later -- whch prompts Sam Raimi to laugh, "Peopel who just paid $20 for this DVD are probably pulling their hair out now!")
