How important is it?

How Important is the name of the movie as far as marketing is concerned?

Hellboy caught some heat from critics for having what one critic called a ''kiddy'' name. I personally don't worry too much about the name, if it's something silly i.e. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle then I may joke about it but it wont effect my decision on whether or not to see it.

I'll give any slightly interesting looking film a chance regardless of the title but how important is it to you? Also how do you think it effects the success of the film?

not

I fell for 'Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things'...The movie had nothing to do with the title...I was disappointed...

A good title can work for the initial 'grab', but I'd prefer it if it actually gave some idea of what the movie was about....It's kinda like putting the word 'delicious' on a box, and when you open the box, it has toilet paper inside...Sux...

Depends.

If I just hear the title of the film, on here for example, I probably wont check it out unless it has a cool title [Ex- Despite having heared it mentioned alot, I just looked up Oldboy a few days ago]. But once I know what it's about, thats all the affects wether I want to see it.

Plus, there are alot of great movies with stupid titles [IE- Jeepers Creepers, Horror Express]

I think it's cool when they pick something that's somewhat obscure but important. ex: Jeepers Creepers.

I agree, and I do get the title...but, to me, it just sounds like a stupid name. For me, a good example of what you're saying is Silence of the Lambs.

And even with what you're coming from, Jeepers Creepers 2 is just a retated name. Sounds stupid, and doesnt have a conection to the movie at all.

Its not important to me but maybe "Equilibrium" would have done better with a different title....perhaps "Gun-Kata"...thats a cool title.

Maybe a different title would have helped "GIGLI" ...ok....bad example.

It don't matter much to me, but it does get kind of annoying when it's misleading....a weird title won't stop me from seeeing something that I want to.

I agree it is kinda stupid and Silence was a nice choice.

A good title can grab you, but it can also lead you astray. Someone used Jeepers Creepers...that title grabbed me because the song used to freak me out. However, when I saw the movie I was sorely disapointed. On a different note, Night of the Living Dead seemed to promise typical cheesey '60's fair, but when you WATCH the film...well you damn well realize this film is going to be a ride.

In writing they encourage "catchy," and anybody that receives an email from me will see that stamp upon my brain stemming (no pun intended) from the university writing code.
