In the Mouth of Maddness

Just saw this the other, and I thought that it was one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen. I mean it was really good until you get to the end, I mean there is no ending, he's watching the movie version of the book and that's it, no closure. That wasn't a clifhanger ending that left room for a sequle, that was just ending the movie in the middle of the story!

It was stupied I thought.

This is such an underated movie from John Carpenter, one of the best modern American horror films in IMO

Igreed.

I´ve seen that movie half a dozen times (maybe a dozen). Love it from beginning to end.

I enjoyed it also, I have seen it twice I think. I do admit to liking the first half better than the second half, but I personally thought the ending was solid.

I've always been on the fence with this one, but I certainly liked some of the scenes.

In particular that REALLY WEIRD, WEIRD "kid on the bicycle" bit--man, that was profoundly unnerving.

I also felt that it was a daring departure for Carpenter. Normally his movies are straight logic, and they're fun because they're stable. This was effective in an unstable and illogical way. Carpenter is generally willing to take a chance on an odd idea or approach.

I think it's really all a matter of perspective. If you keep yourself open to each film you watch, being careful not to impose your own expectations of how a story should proceed, you'll be in a better position to appreciate it. Sometimes, it takes a few viewings to get into Carpenter's films. Others for me being: They Live, Prince of Darkness, and Christine.
