8o's horror films

I wanted to talk about 80's horror because i love the 80's and of course horror. anyone have any favorites

good call, im a big fan of the era too.
Its the time when the horror films could become a series, and i really love that. The characters in the eighties films were given personality and we could relate to them because in each episode we learnt a bit more about them, it was more of a longer story. Different to the one off films of the 70s (whiche were great and in which alot were invented) and different to the shallow un resolving films of today like Valentine or something (which are shite)
My favs have got a be the friday 13ths, hence the name.

i think the 80's were fairly weak ...

not much else but slashers ... which bore me to tears ..

i'm sure there were some decent films too .. but the slasher film defined the 80s for horror.

wow, 20 year old movies are "upcoming"?

alkytrio666 06-13-2005 06:38 AM

Haha, yah, since they're all gonna be remade...

I loved this era, slasher movies are probably my favorite genre of horror...I, too, like Friday the 13th a lot.

...i love slashers(not all)...but I have to say the 70's was a stronger horror period...more serious and better quality...

...and lets not forget all the crapy splatter movies from the 80's...if you think slashers are stupid what do you think about splatter ?

slasher movies ARE splatter films ... not sure what you're getting at here.

everything that could be done with a slasher was done - after halloween and fri 13. after that it's the same old thing over and over and over again. (there are a couple of exceptions - not many)

the 70's horror films were defined by satanism - possession, devil worship, etc ... they had a real thing for them back then. they had a gritty feel and usually a cast of A list actors ...

the 80's horror films were populated largely with soap opera actors.

never considered re-animator to be a splatter film ...

Peckinpa's The Wild Bunch is credited by some to be the 1st splatter film.

i dont remember a lot of splatter in Re-Animator - just a lot of animated body parts.
