For the ladies...

This is gonna look very Australia specific, because it's only a relatively recent development (here), and has only really just reached OUR media...I thought you'd all wanna have a look, 'cos something this huge for you is gonna go international, it's only a matter of time.

It's only a preventative thus far, but this is very promising in terms of future CURE development too.
Thought you'd all like to know all the same, hope you had a good read.

Wow, that's fabulous Cheeb! Thanks for sharing it

S'ok,
I thought I could get it out there quicker this way, and yknow...I'm not a chick, but it seems like a pretty big thing...glad to oblige.

It's a very big thing. There's women all over the world who have lost their lives to this disease. It's nice to know someone has been successful in creating a vaccine.

Thanks Cheeba. That's great news.

I actually had a cervical cancer scare last year. My doctor found what he thought were pre-cancerous cells, and I had to under-go a few tests. Luckily everything turned out fine, but I was really scared.

It's really good to know that millions of women will be saved from having to go through all of that :) Very exciting stuff.

This is great. My aunt AND my grandmother both had cervical cancer, luckily they found it early and were able to get past it. And I know this puts me a greater risk of getting it also....s'why I get my lil tests done at the same time every year.

But I wonder about this....

It will be given to girls before they are sexually active to give lifelong immunity to the human papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer. It will effectively obliterate one of the biggest cancer killers of women.

Every girl in the world aged 12 will receive this vaccine,"
I wonder why they can't give the vaccine to every woman?

At any rate it makes me happy to see that the world IS actually advancing in curing/preventing these kind of things

They'll perfect it, Marroe...I hope.

Otherwise, this is the greatest piece of news I've heard all day.

I think that the reason they can only give it to girls who haven't been sexually active yet, is because they haven't been exposed to HPV. Therefore, the vaccine will prevent them from ever GETTING the HPV virus.

However, just b/c you're sexually active doesn't mean that you have HPV. I guess they're just helping to protect the population of girls who haven't been exposed to it yet...so that they don't get it :)

Hopefully it will eventually be available to all women though :)

So yeah, it's not as "solid" as it's GONNA be just now, but it's really promising to see some of this stuff getting done...
