Edgar Allen Poe
 

Poe is such an amazing author. All his works are incredible, and he was such an interesting man. I was just in Philly and visited his old house, very cool if anyone's ever up there. Reading his works, though, just gives me chills, they're so incredible. Do I have any Poe fans here?

Fall of the House of Usher is my favorite story by Poe, but I also love The Black Cat, Ligeia and The Oblong Box. Annabel Lee and Eldorado are my favorite poems.

Which of his works do you reccomened

Just pick up any Poe collection. But make sure that it has both The Fall of the House of Usher and The Tell-Tale Heart, which are the two stories I always recommend.

I'm also a huge fan of Poe. The Masque of the Red Death and The Cask of Amontillado are two favorites of mine. I've got Poe's complete tales in one book, and I highly recommend that edition. It's pretty cheap too, coming in at around $15. Here's a link to Amazon if anybody is interested:

P.S. I'm not really a spelling nitpicker, but it's Edgar Allan Poe, with an A in Allan. The only reason I mention it at all is because I just got done reading Kim Newman's short story "Just Like Eddy". Anyone who has read that one will know what I'm talking about. :)

The Black Cat and Tell-Tale Heart, but any'll do.

Poe is an amazing writer and should definately be seen as one of it not the greatest writer of horror literature. I love his stories like the Raven, the Pit and the Pendulum, the House of Usher, and the one about the man who gets his friend drunk and than buries him behind these brick walls. Oh yeah and I love the Red Masque of Death too. Oh! And also I can't remember the name of the story, but it had to do with this hunchback toadboy looking guy who was a servant for a king before like exacting revenge on him and his friends at a party with his fellow hunchback servant. Anyone remember this?

Poe was also a really interesting man as someone before me mentioned. He used to go to the extremes with sleep deprivation, tobacco, large ammounts of coffee, alcohol, and absinthe. He used to get all hocked up like that and just go crazy writing, no wonder his stories are so exquisitely bizzarre and full of interesting imagery.
