Deserves a thread all it's own...

If you haven't seen the ill fated sci-fi series "Firefly", you probably won't understand the need to give this a thread all its own...but fuck it...you'll just have to roll with it.
I just saw my first trailer to the upcoming movie SERENITY, which is based upon that series. Those of you that HAVE watched the series will surely agree that this badboy hadda be shouted from the rooftops.

So, the trailer is up, at:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/

I still can't make out whether or not it's a slightly different spin on the events that occured in the series, or a follow up to the series, but either way, I'm SO fucking there.

So discuss...?
Looks like they got the entire cast, which is great - and from news I've read, they've all signed on for a potential trilogy, and another series should these film/s generate enough interest.

For those that have watched the series through...do you suppose the black dude is who I'm thinking he is? (last ep.)

The visual effects have become even better, and i's lookin' like you DO get to see the Reavers after all...oh man, can't wait...TOO FUCKING LONG!!!!
I really really really really really really REALLY hope this brings about a continuation of the series...

It was a space western. The fact that it was only around for (less than) one season has more to do with the fact that it was on Fox than the quality of the show. I've said for years that Fox is a piece of shit network. The way they handled Firefly and Alien Nation alone are proof of that

ah yes, I remeber now and the ship was called firefly right? I loved alien nation I think wgn bought the series and continued it, although I was 11 {or younger} when it originally aired.

No, the ship was called Serenity. Alien Nation lasted one season, but it did get TV movies afterwards

Yeah the show was pretty original, although kinda goofy at times...

but this movie looks pretty badass

ChEEbA 04-29-2005 03:37 PM

So fox ditched it right?
It's great to know that you can always depend on them to look after the interests of reality shows, wrestling, endless reruns of the simpsons, and lets not forget Springer...where the REAL quality is.
I never watched Alien Nation much, but what I aw WAS good, and yeah, I'd agree, another shitty decision.

Like I said, I REALLY hope this movie can find a way to a continuation of the series...SOMEHOW...I mean, the news on the film I've read leads me to believe J.W is preparing for the possibility, even if only in terms of contracts..etc.., perhaps a different network this time round, eh?

So STE, d'ya think that guy is...that guy??? (last ep.)?
If so, they sure changed him some...

I agree the show was original. I think it had a more realistic view on planet-to-planet industrial development.., it wasn't "all" western, but I liked the touch.
I dunno if I'd call it "goofy", I mean it was funny, in fact it has some of the funniest dialogue I've ever come across in a sci-fi show. But hey, I think it all came together really well...and the amount of different styles of story that were used...eh, I'm a fan as you can tell...

The STE 04-29-2005 07:24 PM

no, the black guy isn't Early.

The Alien Nation decision is especially bad because the one season it was on was Fox's FIRST fucking season
