When Craven did the Scream movies I wonder if he was paying homage to a genre that Carpenter created.

halloweens the greatest horror movie ever made and nightmare on elm street is the second best so carpenter is the best in my book

I'd have to go with Carpenter. The man did make great films such as Halloween, The Thing, They Live, Prince of Darkness, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from... and In the Mouth of Madness. Therefore, I think he's superior to Craven.
