stion on name rights

I have a question can i use names of other films, songs, fast food restuarants and actors like britney spears in a film for free or would there be some kind illegal thing going on

MichaelMyers 12-21-2004 11:25 PM

Yes.

donnie darkko 12-21-2004 11:28 PM

yes u can use it or yes its illegal?

I don't think it's illegal. I'm pretty sure that if George Lucas might have sued them, they wouldn't have talked about Star Wars in Clerks. Ditto for pretty much any pop culture reference in the movie.

However, when they did the TV Show, they had stuff like the Down With Paul Reiser shirt that the network thought would get them sued.

So basically, just talking about them is fine. The only reason they'd have any reason to sue you would be if it were negative, and even then you probably won't get sued.

thats what i was thinking thanks for the advice, I was also wonderingh if you could show thinks like a pepsi or trademarked product?

The STE 12-29-2004 04:11 PM

referring again to the Clerks commentary, they had tons of products around and said that they didn't clear it with anybody, even though you could clearly see Huggies, M&Ms, and tons of other things.
