House by the Cemetary
All hail Netflix. I hadn't been able to find this movie anywhere until last week. I'm going to assume other's here have seen it. Probably not Lucio Fulci's best but I enjoyed it just the same...save for that quote about children at the end...and the boy himself. That was the ugliest child I have ever seen in my life. At the end of the movie when the mother and son are climbing out of the basement, running away from Dr. Freudstein (sp?) the camera was switching between the two. The movie hadn't scared me once until the camera focused on the kid's face...I swear it startled me so much I jumped out of my seat...>.>;;
The movie was laughable at parts but had some genuinely excellent scenes...and lest we not forget the violence... |
I haven't been able to track this down yet. Sounds good tho I'll have to give it a go.

i have a netflix account and it's great you can find almost any movie you can think of ive even found some that i havent heard of.

Looks great, sounds great, has some top notch set-pieces, nice 'n' nasty gore/murders and still the best 'journey around a killer's lair' sequence ever.
But it makes almost no sense. Too many things are said or happen that are never explained and the end is open to various interpritations. |

welcome to the wide world of italian horror cinema :) you have to be able to appreciate style over substance. I enjoy them but they often make no sense at all or hang the whole story on a plot twist that's made out to be much more important than it really is (i.e. the mirror in Deep Red) I love them for their unbridled entheusiasm though ... The Japanese make horror films in a similar vein but they are much more restrained. At least someone is making them though ... |
Ive yet to see this, but they have a disc at Wal-Mart with both this ad Sleepaway Camp. Im gonna get it after Christmas. Cant wait! Saw my 1st Italian horror Friday night, Argento's Suspiria.....awesome movie, just plain awesome

I have to say i like the obscure visuals or sounds that Gialli hang their plots on. Like the "Deep Red" mirror or what he really saw through the glass in the masterful "Bird with the Crystal Plumage". The nightmarish otherworldly reality of "The Beyond" also works well. But t"House by..." seems to go out of it's way to be obscure. Mostly in the fact that the Husband seems to have been at the house before, acts strangely for no reason and is recognised by various characters even though he's never been to the town before. |
I really like this movie as well..However, this isnt my favorite Fulci film. Urgeok is right about the plots/story, etc.. of Italian horror films. I mean you eighter love them or hate them. I have thought about getting a membership with Netflix, are they really good.???

We primarily go to:
Italy for violence Japan for brilliant ideas and America for big budget remakes and sequels (and the occasionaly low budget masterpiece) Not that there aren't exceptions >.>;;. House by the Cemetary was good as I said before but I agree that it had MANY unfinished ideas. Heh, and yes, Netflix is awesome. VERY large selection of movies and they don't take too long to arrive. Not much of a hassle at all especially considering there aren't any late fees. >.>;; I usually kill myself with late fees at all the local rental places. I only wish they had video games too. |

Come to think of it, The Beyond and Nightmare Concert wrap things up nicely at the finish too... |
