Auditions [no I'm not spamming about having them]
I'm in pre-produciton process on a new film I'm making, and its getting close to time to hold auditions. As far as what you have the actors read have you had them let them read their own material, so that you can see how they act with material they have had time to digest. Or have them read from your script. Or both? I was thinking both myself
Or if you are an actor what would you prefer going in to an audition. |
Always have them read from your script.

I have the actors read from the script and then I ask them if there is anything they would perform. I also ask them to list their talents...no matter how abstract.

either read from a script or let them do a monologue. Monologues usually work if the script is dialogue heavy and they haven't had time to get familiar with the script.

Professional actors are trained to have a repretoire, they should have a song, an old-style monologue, a modern monologue, and a childrens monolouge. Have them read a passage from your script, preform a monologue that suites your production, plus give them a topic, and have them do imprive for a minute or so, just get them to tell you a story. Ive been to 2 auditions like this, they're the best kind
