Favourite remake

Probably done before but anyway in the age of recycled movie ideas and versions that people find they can improve on,whats your favourite remake?

If we're counting Shakespeare adaptations, then far and away the best is Kurosawa's Ran

If not:
Magnificent Seven (remake of Seven Samurai)
The Ten Commandments (remake of The Ten Commandments)

Dawn of the Dead, I also liked the tv version of the Shining. It was much closer to the book though I must say the altered Hollywood version scared me a hell of a lot more as a little kid...of course there was that massive age differance...

The remake for TCM sucked terribly.

I'm not a huge fan of the remake, only because I think its a classic for a reason and there's no way to make a classic better, and the harder they try, the worse it gets.

But I have to say the Dawn of the Dead remake wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The Grudge really wasn't that bad either, but they still both pale in comparison to the originals.

God, that TCM remake was hideous crap.
