the synopsis on my DVD case reads:

A rooftop sniper guns down 14 pedestrians on the streets of New York City. A mild mannered dad takes a shotgun and blows away his wife and children. A cop goes on a sudden shooting spree at the St. Patrik's Day parade. And each of these unlikly killers makes the same dying cunfession: "God told me to."

Now a repressed Catholic NYPD detective must uncover a netherworld of deranged faith, alien insemination and his own unholy connection to a homicidal messiah with a pervese plan for the soul of mankind.

Tag line: KILL (is written with blood under the tittle "God Told Me To" so it reads God Told Me To KILL.)

Oddly enough, this movie is in Ebert's "I Hated, Hated, HATED This Movie" book

Just gives me more reasons to hate that man.

Sam The Egg 09-02-2004 01:33 PM

Actually, the title is misleading. It's not just the movies he really hated, because some of the movies in the book get ratings of, IIRC, **1/2 out of ****. So blame whoever decided what reviews to put in the book

Oh, and hating someone because of their opinions sucks

how is the tittle missleading? and I dont hate him because of his opinions. I have diffrent reasons

Sam The Egg 09-07-2004 01:07 PM

Do you know him personally? What else is there to him besides his opinions? He's fat, or was at least (I haven't seen how he looks now and have heard he's losing weight), but that's a bad reason to hate someone, too.

The title is misleading because it contains movies that he doesn't hate. The qualifications for being in the book seemed to be under ***, but he's given fairly decent reviews to **1/2 movies, and a couple of ** movies

I cant stand Roger Ebert because he is an arrogant dick. His commentary ion the dark city dvd could not have been more pretentious or self-absorbed, and he believes his opinions are more valid than other critics because he wrote a movie.....

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.....

I can write softcore pron in my sleep, that doesnt make my opinion on movies more valid than the next guys...

Nothing TOO terribly personal against him though, i hate all critics. their job is to complain. I think levelling an opinion is not an honest way to make a living. I do that shit for free all the time.

HappyCamper 09-07-2004 01:26 PM

Yeah my girlfriend pointed this movie out to me today, while we were in FYE. I passed on it, but now maybe I should have got it. It was only $9.99 Instead I got, Horror Classics 6 movies: Night of the Living Dead, Dementia 13, Satan's Dracula, and others...
I also saw Drive-In Movies: 'Blade in the Dark' and 'Macabre' which I also passed on, but nowI'm wishing I hadn't.

What do you guys think, did I make two big purchasing mistakes?

Yeah I don't usually agree with the critics. There have been alot of great movies that I think the majority of the public have overlooked, just because of the critics' reviews

KRUGERKID13 09-07-2004 01:41 PM

i bought it cause andy kaufmann was in it for like 2 sec. and i thought it sucked but thats just me
