I have to agree with opinions below. Shining is great film. Do you think this film is great because was made by Kubrick??

That has to play a part. I mean, we've seen other people tackle the book and we saw how that turned out.

It seems like people have forgot this movie was based on a book:mad:

IMHO, that's because the movie was infinitely better than the book.

I must respectfully disagree and say that..."THE MOVIE IS NEVER BETTER THAN THE BOOK!!!"

The film is always better than the book, agreed. In my opinion the Shining is the single exception to that rule. I can't think of another film that is better than the book.

King is entertaining but really not a great writer... the novel the Shining has its moments (such as the hedge monsters) but can be boring and repetitive, like a lot of his work. The thing that really irks me about King is that he over-writes. Sometimes brevity is a virtue.

The Shining is a great horror film but also a well-done film overall. Kubrick took King's original idea and improved on it. Jack Torrance was no longer a sympathetic character but became a true villian to express the horrible nature of the Overlook Hotel.

I don't think that the Shining should have been number 1. I think the Excorist.

I would like to see their 100 best list. By channel 4 do you mean the BBC or...? Is the list available anywhere?

mudsliptones 11-30-2003 12:00 PM

I want to see the list to

and yes, books are generaly better then the movie

heapodd 12-03-2003 10:20 AM

It was actually 100 scariest moments either in tv, film, advertising or pop - but basically was a top 100 of scary movies. This is the website address:

I love The Shining, I'll have to get my hands on the book, but I don't think it deserves number 1. Just my opinion.

rikki 12-11-2003 04:08 PM

The ORIGINAL Shining was good. The remake... ahhhhh, the remake... I couldn't even watch because seeing Steven Weber in the commercials caused me to become physically violently ill. How dare they try to remake it! How could someone even begin to think that there's the slight possibility of making that movie any better? Fucking bastards.

rikki 12-11-2003 04:09 PM

Oh and I saw something on AMC around Halloween that was a top 100 list of the scariest movies of all time.

Try checking AMC's website?
