Favorite Stephen King movie

What is your favorite Stephen King movie? IT, Stand By Me, Rose Red and Sleepwalkers are pretty good. What do you guys like?

Has anyone heard about the making of Stephen King's book Desperation?

nine9 08-02-2004 05:01 PM

That would be cool if they made Desperation...long as they don't ruin yet another book!

I think The Deadzone.............loved Chris Walken in that part! Also one of my favorite books! :D

Living/Dead 08-03-2004 05:00 AM

IMO this one isn't even up for debate, The Shining is by far the best Stephen King adaptation to date. I actually think it's one of the best horror movies, not just from Stephen King. Lots of people hated Jack Nicholson's performance, which I'll never understand because I thought the transformation from caring husband to raving madman was fantastic. Watching him stalk from room to room with an axe in his hand created some of the best scenes in the horror genre, the facial expressions are really creepy as well. Kubrick's direction brings it all together, the steady cam behind the tricycle turned out amazing and is a scene every horror fan knows. The only other movie that comes close IMO is Carrie, again a great diretor (DePalma) and acting (Spacek) is the reason it turned out so well. I'm not really a fan of his straight to tv movies, most are quite lame.

PS- Stand by Me is just as good as The Shining, I just decided to stick to his horror novels.

Vodstok 08-03-2004 05:44 AM

The Shining, Needful Things, Maximum Overdrive.

My top 3. I know MO is bad, but Stephen King didnt mean for ti to be good.it's just fun.

Except Lisa Simpson is fucking irritating in that movie. "Curtis? Are you dead?" Screechy little twit...

I saw IT, Pet Cemetary and Misery when I was just a kid (6 or7). IT contributed to the ever-popular irrational fear of clowns (Tim Curry was awesome, there's no denying that) and I remember the scene in Pet Cemetary when Rachael's mother came back to life and she was calling "Rachael... Rachael... Rachael" and my older sister (named Rachael) covered her eyes and told me to describe what the lady looked like... Being six years old, I tried to think of the scariest things to tell her and I said "Her nose is where her eyes are supposed to be, and her eyes are where her ears are supposed to be.. and she doesn't have any hair and there's teeth on her head!"

... I share too much on this message board.

Anyway, The Shining.. I loved that one. Stand By Me was awesome, but not really a scary movie... Carrie was good, but not as good as The Shining. I'm anxiously awaiting Riding The Bullet to be released in October.

Not horror but two of King's best books, and were made in two of the best movies EVER MADE@!!

The Green Mile
The Shawshank Redemption

Of his horror stuff:

Pet Semetary (disturbing book and movie/ kid with scalpel etc.)

Misery (Kathy Bates is amazing, book is better, is actually more gruesome than the movie. You know the scene with the sledgehammer, in the book its MUCH worse. Involves and axe and a blow torch to carterize the wounds!!!)

Children of the Corn (Satanic sh*t is always scary!)

I think i'll watch hm.........CHristine..and ....The Substitute tonight.

Preacher 08-23-2004 02:37 AM

His best films have gotta be Stand by Me and the Shawshank Redemption.

As for horror, well.....to be honest, i'm not really amazed by the films they've made of his horror stories. Tend to be a bit hit an miss. Would probably say i like IT the most but only cos i'm shit scared of clowns.

Ay seen the movie of The Dark Half. Is it good??? Jus read the book and its really good.

Would like to see Apt Pupil as well. Fuckin good story.

Latas......p x

CursedRatMonkey 08-23-2004 04:46 AM

Pet Semetary, Creepshow, Misery, Apt Pupil(I think that is how it's spelled), and The Dead Zone.

When I saw the shining I was too young to remember it.
I remember getting freaked out by it though lol.

Pet Semetary has some of the best Ramones songs ever.

shadow_13 08-23-2004 08:42 AM

I liked just about all of the movies based off of King's books, I even liked Dreamcatcher, I don't really know why everyone else seems to hate it. The Shining is my favorite though.

gnarly 08-26-2004 12:57 AM
