I have a question about NOTLD

Where does Return of the Living Dead fall into place? I know they have Night of the LKiving Dead, and the sequel is Dawn of the Dead, followed by Day of the Dead. But what about Return of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead 3? Do they have anything to do with the original Night of the Living Dead?

they have nothing to do with the originals.

when they were splitting up the rights to the original film, the co-writer john russo kept the rights to use the term "living dead" while george kept the rights to "night". russo wrote a screenplay called return of the living dead but it was completely rewrote to become the film we see today.

"it was completly rewrote to become the film we say today" what dawn of the dead?

feral cat 07-06-2004 09:02 AM

The rights to these films are everywhere!!! Day of the deads had a remake by a completly diffrent company to the Dawn of the dead remake!!!

Has anyone seen "Children of the living dead" ...

talking about return of the living dead

JokerMONEY3000 07-06-2004 10:11 AM

So techinically Return of the Living Dead was the sequel, but no one considered it the sequel because George Romero went an made Dawn of the Dead.

I saw Return of the Living Dead 3 and it was horibble. Its just about some guy who brings his girlfriend back to life. It sux so much, their arn't even dead people in it.

zwoti 07-06-2004 10:20 AM

it has nothing to do with the romero films. even if it was it was made the same year as day of the dead, 7 years after dawn.

Yes, it was horrible.

The "Return" series has nothing to do with Romero's series. In the 1st ROTLD they even mention NOTLD as a movie based on an actual event. Remember?

nothing to do with any of the dead trilogy. Ment to be a spoof but not associated with any romero films at all

I want to know how they did the cool effects involving zombies being hit by trucks in the new dawn of the dead. I've never seen anything quite like that before.

But I think the original is a better made film. the best out of the Dead trilogy thats for sure

KRUGERKID13 07-07-2004 03:06 AM

odds are probably cg since all movies know a days are so lazy to do any of it manually

Morpheus 07-07-2004 03:12 AM

CG

It's not right. it is. I mean look what they did to blade 2.

Zombie films as a rule should be without CG, at least where the actual zombies are concerned. I'm not against CG itself, just don't overdo it i say.

KRUGERKID13 07-07-2004 03:18 AM

yeah well i am against cg cause its putting people like savini and knb effects outta buisness

Morpheus 07-07-2004 03:22 AM

28 days later used camera techniques to get great effects.
No hollywood tricks there, just plain gritty documentary style.

I love that film. Probably the first to have fast zombies.

JokerMONEY3000 07-08-2004 03:59 AM

I only think they should use CG if you can't detect it. Like take something like Blade, at the end the guy blows up. The effects were horrible the blood sucked. (Detectable) Now take something like Halloween Ressurection, member at the beginning when Busta is explainning to the cameras whats happening. U can see the Myers house In the backround, that was added digitally, but the trees around it were put in with CG. The porch of the Myers House was filmed on a stage, and then the street was added digitally. That all had to be seemed together, the porch, street, & house were all in different locations brought together digitally, but the trees were completly CGI (not detectable).

you know, back in the day, like in the Original DOTD, the effects were done rather low-budget. For instance, the zombie that is hit by the truck and gets it head splatted on the windshield was actually done by Tom Savini running towards a parked truck and at the last second tossing a blood-filled-baggie at the windshield...CLASSIC

Return Of The Living Dead was supposed to be based on John Russo's early 70s novel of the same title which was a direct sequel to NOTLD (Dawn Of The Dead didn't exist yet). Tobe Hooper was supposed to direct, but the project ran into delays, and Dan O'bannon was brought in and he totally rewote the script so it had nothing to do with Russo's novel. The film is more like an unrelated spin off.
Incidently, Russo also worte a novelization of O'Bannon's film (I've got both novels) which is different from both his old novel and the film's screenplay.

Children Of The Living Dead was produced by Russo and features elements from Russo original ROTLD novel. Except that it's a huge steaming pile of shit!
